Swivl Guide

Overview - What does it do?

Swivl is a device that works with Zoom, automatically following you around the room while you’re teaching. A mic you carry is used to sense where you are and pick up your voice. It is used to enhance the learning experience for those watching remotely.

Limitations:

  • It can be difficult to hear students talking back through the iPad

  • When presenting a whiteboard, it can be hard to read.

  • Mic is always on - they can hear anything you say - be careful speaking to other students/on phone etc. Cover mic holes.

  • You can’t see anything the students may be saying in the Zoom chat

Directions:

  • Turn on Swivl device - press hold power button on front.

  • Turn on mic remote - press hold power. Wait for green light on both swivl and mic

  • Plug in cable from iPad to Swivl

  • It may display “iPad would like to communicate with swivl” select allow

  • If the message doesn’t display ,open the Swivl app on the iPad.

  • Press the “Zoom” button in the Swivl App.

  • Check who is signed in. Sign out if it’s someone other than you.

  • Sign in with your credentials.

  • Start a meeting using your Personal Meeting Id (PMI)

  • Share your meeting ID with the students logging in.

Optional: If you want to share something on your computer or want to have a chat open you can do that by logging into Zoom on your computer and start a Zoom using your PMI. It will link to the same Zoom session you are on with the swivl.

Make sure you turn off your mic on your computer!  Otherwise you’ll get that horrible squelching feedback sound.
